Catherine Blanchett was born on 14th May 1969, in Melbourne, Australia to a Texan father and an Australian mother. She was exposed to a curious intermingling of cultures at a very young age. Cate's father passed away when she was merely ten years old, and it was left to the mother to bring up not only Cate but also an older brother and a younger sister. After completing her initial schooling from Melbourne, she attended Methodist Girls College where she perused her passion for acting. When she was 18, she played her first part as a non descript extra, where she had to cheer for an American boxer who was loosing to his Egyptian rival.
